The Purification Process

The purification process, which consists of four stages was designed to get the water in Eshowe to the required standards set by the World Health Organisation for bottled water:

Stage one: 0.2 Micron  Polypropylene Filter

This filter cartridge is made of 100% pure food grade polypropylene fibers and is designed to remove dirt, sediment, rust particles, and other solid particulates from the water.

Stage two:  Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF55)

Kinetic Degradation Fluxion (KDF) is a high-purity copper-zinc formulation that uses a basic chemical process known as redox (oxidation/reduction) to remove chlorine, aluminium, lead, mercury, iron, and hydrogen sulfide from the water.

Stage three:  Carbon Block Filter

Carbon is a substance that has a long history of being used to absorb impurities and is perhaps the most powerful absorbent known to man. There are two principal mechanisms by which activated carbon removes contaminants from water; adsorption, and catalytic reduction, a process involving the attraction of negatively-charged contaminant ions to the positively-charged activated carbon. It eliminates bad tastes and odors, chlorine, and many organic contaminants in the water.

Stage four: Ultraviolet Purifier

In the ultraviolet purifier the water passes an ultraviolet germicidal lamp housed in a high quality quartz sleeve.  This kills bacteria and other harmful biological contaminants including e-coli, cholera and other harmful diseases.
